Get the 3G iPhone: What happens to old Apple iPhone?
June 12, 2008 by Daniel
Filed under Cell Phone Information, Cell Phones

Like many other iPhone owners, I am in one of the 22 countries that will get the 3G iPhone on July 11th and like many other iPhone owners I will be getting the new 3G iPhone. When I first thought about upgrading I thought we would be trading in our first generation Apple iPhone for the new 3G iPhone but I have not seen anywhere say that you have to do this.
The information so far states that you pay $199 to AT&T (£99 on O2 in the UK) for the new 8GB 3G iPhone and you also have to start a new contract. There is no information about your old iPhone, so I am guessing you get to keep this.
If you are getting the new 3G iPhone, then what will you do with your old Apple iPhone?
This has got to be a question a lot of iPhone owners have asked themselves, and if you look online you can see that a lot of people have unlocked their first generation iPhones and if this is the case, will we see many first generation iPhones being handed to friends and family who then put different networks on them.
The iPhone 2.0 may be 2mm thicker but its also lighter, got GPS and much faster 3G. The new phone also costs less than what we paid when the first iPhone was released and the next firmware that’s due mid July will include a lot of upgrades to enhance all iPhones. Sadly the 3G iPhone still has just a 2-megapixel camera, which in this day and age is a little poor.
Let us know what you plan to do with your old iPhone when upgrading or are they really going to take them from us (that’s unlikely).

Paying $599 for iPhone 3G that’s still locked to AT&T
July 5, 2008 by Daniel

Many current iPhone owners will be happy to upgrade to the 3G iPhone for the obvious improvements and if you are on certain phone plans, it could even mean a free next generation iPhone.
The basic price of an iPhone 2.0 is $199 but you will need to take out a new 2-year contract with AT&T, if you do not want to do that then its going to cost you.
The problem with buying the 3G iPhone with no contract is that you will have to pay $699 for a 16GB and $599 for a 8GB iPhone; although it is the first time the United States has had this option.
What I have trouble with is if the phone is still locked to AT&T, does it make any sense to buy an iPhone 3G with no contract for $599 and still be locked to AT&T?
For people who do not like being tied to contracts and still want Apple’s phone, I guess having that freedom will come at a heavy price. Are you willing to pay it?
First iPhone 3G has been sold

You may not have decided yet if your going to line-up for an Apple iPhone 3G in the morning, but some people on this planet have already bought their iPhone 2.0.
While that does not include people in the UK or US, the lucky people in New Zealand have been able to buy an iPhone 3G because it’s now Friday, June 11th over there.
This is because Vodafone have launched the iPhone 3G in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland City before other retail outlets in the country. Most stores will be launching much later.
Parts of Australia will now be getting the iPhone 3G as they have a few hours difference to New Zealand, although Perth will have to wait a little longer (currently 9:44pm there).
While the first iPhone 3G has been sold, the rest of the 22 countries around the world will be getting it over the next 24 hours and one thing is sure, it will be in very short supply.
What will you be doing on the launch of the iPhone 3G in your country?
What’s your Apple iPhone used for the most? Video Streaming

The Apple iPhone was hyped up so high leading up to its launch in the US and Europe, and although it’s a phone and I use my iPhone for making calls, this is not what my it does the most.
As I work from home, my iPhone spends most of its life in a Sound Dock playing music and also streaming YouTube videos over my home network.
It’s also used for taking photos, mapping and all the other tasks its good at but what I love the most is doing so many tasks from just one product and that includes as an iPod mainly Read more
Apple iPhone SDK will have emulator with v1.2 codenamed Aspen running the show

We all know that the Apple iPhone SDK in fact includes the iPhone emulator making it much easier for developers to test their code without risking corruption of a real iPhone, but and a big fat but many of us will be totally satisfied with the current Apple iPhone v1.1.4 firmware.
Well the iPhone emulator gets to play with a brand new version which is unreleased at the moment of the iPhone firmware.
Ok what the hell am I going on about here, well to break it down the iPhone emulator’s Settings pane will indeed show that the Apple iPhone v1.2 (5A147p) is running the show, the new version is codenamed Aspen which is more consistent with the older iPhone OS codenames like for example the v1.1.1 was called the SnowBird and the v1.1.2 was Oktoberfest and last but not least the v1.1.3 was LittleBear.
Apple is now looking at pushing out the iPhone v2.0 firmware in June which will work well with the iPhone SDK and apps born from its development. The question is will Apple be good enough to release the Aspen sooner rather than later?

Prices for O2’s iPhone 3G Pay as you Go (PAYG)

Some mobile phone users do not want to commit to a contract, especially when we could be at the start of another recession. Well if these same people want the Apple iPhone 3G on Pay as You Go (PAYG), then this will soon be possible.
Today we can finally give you the details of iPhone 3G Pay and Go, O2 have revealed the UK pricing and availability. This information was expected back in July 2008.
From September 16, the iPhone 3G 16GB will be available for £399.99, and the iPhone 3G 8GB for £349.99 on Pay & Go. The reason that the PAYG iPhone 3G’s have such a high price may be to stop people buying and unlocking the iPhone for another network.
In the price users get free Wi-Fi and browsing for 12 months, after that time it will cost £10 per month.
