Redsn0w 0.9.9b5 shows how to jailbreak iOS 5, iPhone 4 only, not 4S

If you have been shut off from the world during the last 24 hours, you may not have realized that Apple’s huge and highly anticipated iOS 5 update is now available to download from iTunes 10.5. For those that are looking for an jailbreak guide for iOS 5 – you’ve come to the right place.

It has become common knowledge now that these jailbreak releases come almost instantly after Apple release their official software update. Within minutes of the company posting the update to iTunes, a jailbreak method to iOS 5 has now become available thanks to the Redsn0w 0.9.9b5 software that you can now freely download.

We have a guide to show you, and it once again comes from jailbreak enthusiasts RedmondPie, who have listed the steps over at their website. The good news, is that the jailbreak to iOS 5 looks like a fairly simple process, although it’s important to note that this jailbreak remains tethered for now. If you need reminding, a tethered jailbreak will require you to install redsn0w on your iPhone each time you reboot it, so if you don’t want to bother with this everytime – keep your phone switched on at all times.

Now then, another piece of information to digest, is that this jailbreak is for the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, the iPad and the iPod Touch ONLY – i.e, this jailbreak does not support the new iPhone 4S, or the iPad 2 so never forget that or you’ll end up with a bricked iPhone 4S which nobody wants to see happen. With that said and done, head on over to RedmondPie for the full instructions on how to jailbreak your device.

Once you have installed redsn0w 0.9.9b5 on your iOS device, you’ll now be able to enjoy all of the new features of iOS 5, as well as gain access to the Cydia store and other jailbreak-only delights. If the process worked for you or if you’re having problems, leave us a comment here so others can suggest feedback.
